September 13 Update 2!I have indeed moved onto my former Spaces account. I'll no longer be posting here or updating the page, so....GTFO! July 02 Update!Well holy shit. I am alive. I haven't logged into this Space sine November 13th, apparently. It's been a while, and I suppose I'll update you on a few things: First thing's first: I'm no longer with Game-Spectrum, so that URL up above doesn't make much sense anymore. Alas, I might be switching to my first Space at evanvolm.spaces.live.com. I haven't logged into that one in....God....3 years, maybe? Or I might just stick with this one. It isn't a big deal to me, because I don't necessarily like these Spaces. No one I know uses them on a regular basis, thus proving to be quite pointless. I've moved onto Facebook to keep in touch with friends, and Blogger to...well...blog. I'm apparently working at StrategyInformer.com, but I'm not very useful. I kinda feel like crap about it all, because I was asked to find contact info. for a few game companies about advertising. I did so, and sent out emails weeks ago and haven't gotten any replies. I'd at least like to get a "No" response, so I know for sure they're actually recieving my email(s). That's basically all I'll say for now. For daily updates, I'd suggest heading over to my blog. Subsribe to the feed for instant updates. November 13 Has Nintendo forgotten about the DS? The original DS, that is. Sure they're still making plenty of games for it, but accessories? The DS Lite seems to be getting all the love in that field. I wouldn't mind having a simple skin for my DS, but all I can ever find are ones for the Lite. Nyko seems to be a friend of Game-Spectrum, so I went their site in search for a few accessories I could try out. Unfortunately, all they had was one: a power pack. While a power pack may be of some to hard core gamers, 8 extra hours of gameplay certainly does me no good. Though, the "Charger Grips" do look comfortable. *sigh* November 12 Neves ReviewFirst and foremost, I must admFirst and foremost, I must admit I've never been a fan of strategy/puzzle games. I've never been able to find enjoyment from games like Jewel Quest, or even Tetris. That's right. I'm not a fan of Tetris. At all. In fact, I can go so far as to say I hate Tetris. I know many people my age who could spend hours on Tetris, and even a few mothers. But those kind of games never really did it for me. Where's the bang? The explosions? The guns? I mean, at least give me a little blood for all the work and time I put into completing each stage. With that said, I went into Neves expecting pretty much the same experience. How wrong I was....
November 11 Neves, pre-reviewWell, after completing 130 or so silhouettes on Neves, it's safe to say I get the gist of it all. Overall I'd give it a 7.5/10. Pros: Extremely simple, yet complex at the same time. Decent customization, such as changing the color scheme, navigation arrows and sound effects(on or off). Good time-waster. Ability to see achievements for each mode you've played. Cons: You can get easily frustrated on some puzzles, but it actually just makes you want to beat it even more. Controlling the pieces can be a tad difficult at times, especially the smaller ones. The increase in difficulty just isn't there while in "silhouette" mode. There are 4 different levels, but they aren't really any different. I've yet to try out "7steps", in which you must place each piece perfectly or else you phail. There's also "TimePressure", which is self-explanatory. I wouldn't mind trying out multiplayer, but unfortunately can't. I should have the full review up by Monday. November 10 Marky Mark as Max Payne What the hell is wrong with everyone? I've been reading people's reactions to this, and people are accepting it. Wahlberg is a terrible choice for Payne. If anyone has seen The Departed, they should know he can't act worth shit. The Departed....now there's some real Payne.... First Timothy Olyphant gets signed on as Agent 47, now this. As much as it pains me to say this, Jason Statham would have been a better choice for the Hitman movie. Olyphant has this baby-face look to him, while Statham at least looks like a badass...somewhat. Hell, Bruce Willis is kickin' it bald these days, why not get him? Better yet, why not Billy Corgan? He's probably has a shitload of anger in him, after releasing "Zeitgeist"(zing!). In other news, a new DS game came today. It's called "Neves", and is a puzzle/strategy game. Typically not my type of game, but this one is actually pretty entertaining. You'd be surprised how hard it is to make a simple shape with 7 pieces. I probably spent 15-20 minutes on this one puzzle, or "Silhouette" as the game says. Once I got going I could get about 3 or 4 done a minute, but then get totally stumped on one. I finally took a break after doing 50-55 of them. I unfortunately couldn't find my DS' stylus, so I had to improvise with my Palm's. It worked out okay, but it's a tad shorter and thicker than the DS', which resulted in me getting hand cramps faster than normal. I can honestly say I'm surprised with the game. I guess my expectations were pretty low, considering the last game I got(*shudders*). I may also be getting a chance to play Contra 4 as well, which I've been hearing a lot about lately. Ha! I was about to write about how puzzling/annoying it is to receive a 12x10 inch box for a 1 1/8x1 1/8 game card when I realized there was something else in the box they sent me. A t-shirt! I thought it felt a little too heavy for being empty. I just tried it on and it fits perfectly. November 09 I'm Broken I can't write anymore. I have the ideas, but when I start to write it out, I can only get about 2 or 3 sentences without getting stumped. And I can't help but wonder if it has to do with me deleting my MySpace blogs(which was a ritual). I wrote a decent sized blog about once a week, which kept my l33t writing skillz up to date at the time. All of a sudden, for reasons I won't go into, it came to a stop. That was 6 months ago, and I'm just now blogging again. Let's hope it'll come back to me. Here's an editorial I'm trying to finish, but just keeps getting worse as I go along.... On day one of Halo 3's release Microsoft raked in roughly $170 million, which is about $45 million more than Halo 2. It took 5 months for Halo: Combat Evolved just to get to the $20 million mark. Halo 3 was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games of all time. Just now I went to Bungie.net and saw 313,316 people are playing Halo 3 right this moment. Halo 2? 11,034. I'm afraid to even check how many people are playing Halo: Combat Evolved on XBC/Xlink Kai. By no means am I surprised though. It is Halo afterall. Halo is the series that has kept Microsoft running even with Sony and Nintendo (and more recently surpassing them in sales). It'll be a while before Microsoft even thinks about surpassing Nintendo, however. But now that the Halo trilogy is over, now what? We know Peter Jackson will be creating a Halo game, but it just won't be the same as the ones we've all played(perhaps for the better, who knows). Like Jackson's Halo game, Halo Wars will undoubtedly do great in sales. But to us gamers, sales mean shit. We want a good, quality game that's unlike any other. Even though Bungie is creating the Halo game with Jackson, it still doesn't automatically mean it'll be just a great as the previous game. Ever since the release of the Xbox 360, the game on many gamers minds was Halo 3. It was pretty much the selling point of many. They sat through all the crappy games given to them like Sonic the Hedgehog, Pimp My Ride and Bomberman Act Zero. While at the same time enjoyed the good ones like Gears of War, BioShock and skate. When you think about it, the fourth quarter of 2007 has been fantastic for the Xbox 360. But it is also marking the peak of Microsoft's Xbox 360. It's all downhill from here. It'll be a gradual downhill, but nonetheless it will be downhill. BioShock hasn't
really made the same impact as Halo: Combat Evolved did. I'm not
saying the BioShock series won't be a But this isn't to
say it's the end for Microsoft. Halo 3.....blah You see? I'm brokenz.... November 08 I interview Tournament.com Whenever you visit a site that offers money for playing a game, there's
always some sort of catch or scam behind it all. Playing your favorite
game and winning money seems to good to be true. However,
Tournament.com is an exception. It stands out among the others because
it's legit, plain and simple. It offers a safe and secure environment,
along with a great community. I had the chance to interview Alex Holt,
co-founder of Tournament.com, and asked him the top questions the community wanted answered. Click me! November 06 Sucks to be EA.EA Chicago shut down today, after having it open for just under a year. EA also lost $195M in market share. Not sure what's going on with them. They should be in pretty good shape, since they now control Mass Effect(which will likely turn out to be a bad thing for gamers, actually). You'd think having Peter Moore on board things would change for the good on EA's side, and bad on Microsofts. Ha...
